Food Photography

Photography is not my expertise, but when I study Graphic Design in college, I took basic photography class. So at least I know how to press the capture button. For your info, I'm actually a food aficionado. So I love to appreciate foods and their presentations. I show my enthusiasm by contributing as food photographer for magazine article.

Font Design: Aquila Didot

A good designed magazine, ideally is a magazine that use not more than three kinds of font. And when I worked in magazine, I had a chance to develop the whole details. Font is of course one of my biggest concern. We use Verlag, a sans-serif font by Hoefler & Frerer-Jones for most of the headlines. But sometimes, in certain case, we do need headlines that appear in serif font. Our problem is to find a perfect serif font to match Verlag.

After searching so many fonts, my choice goes to Didot. Yes, they are goes well together but I want to have something smarter, a font that match to Verlag but also would be an identity for this magazine at the same time. Then I crossed the anatomy of Verlag and Didot, creating a new hybrid font which has serif details from Didot, and the proportion of Verlag. I call this new born baby as Aquila Didot.

Booklet Design-KohZo Jeans

KohZo jeans is an international high end jeans brand that always explores alternative methods and materials in the production. And when I'm still working in Aquila Media, KohZo entrusts us to do their look book. We organized all the production process from the photo shoot to the printing. And I was taking part in making the booklet.

The look and feel of the booklets have to be the same as the idea of KohZo jeans. That's why we choose several unique materials and printing process for the booklet, as we know that KohZo also did the same way with their jeans. Please take a look at the results:

Travel Togs - Aquila Asia Magazine Nov-Dec 2010

Another work of art direction and prop styling. I should admit that this is actually a really fun job. The concept behind this still-life fashion photo shoot is even more simple. It imitates a window display of a shop. Very clean and minimalist background, helps the foreground (the clothes) to be stand out. Even though the concept is simple, the result is very interesting.

Photographed by Bona Soetirto and Styling by Limia Angelina.

Shades of the Season - Aquila Asia Magazine Sept-Oct 2010

Working as Graphic Designer in magazine, sometimes makes you do several other things beyond what you are needed to be. Instead of just doing the layout, you have to do the 'production' process of things that you have to laid out. But it was such an experience which I am thankful. It is an added value for me.

This is an example of my work in Aquila Asia magazine Sept-Oct 2010 issue. A simple Art Directing and Prop Styling concept of a still-life photography (in this case is sunglasses). The concept is about making visual impressions to attract the readers' eyes. To make these pages interesting when you look at the sunglasses, I put properties such as threads and hayes. It creates a 'rich' look when it combined with the dark background. By the help of Gilang Bunga as the fashion stylist, and Bona Soetirto as the photographer, I am very proud to show you the works.
